‘IN REMEMBRANCE
OF THE MEN OF
LONGSTOCK
WHO SERVED THEIR
COUNTRY AS SAILORS
& SOLDIERS IN THE
WAR OF 1914-1919
NOBLY THEY DID THEIR DUTY’
This is the parish memorial in Longstock in Hampshire, situated outside the Peat Spade inn in the centre of the village. This memorial focuses on service and duty, not Country or King.
The lettering, having been cleaned in 2012, is once again deteriorating and becoming hard to read.
Ref No 10.0 in my list of WW1 War Memorials, looking at what the dedications tell us about how ordinary people felt about the War that had just ended.
